WASHINGTON, D.C. (27 September, 2024) -The Excalibur Group Receives 2024 Star
Partner Award from DC Department of Employment Services: Honoring Two Years of
Workforce Readiness, Enrichment, and Barrier Removal Initiatives for Local Residents
The Excalibur Group was honored on Friday, September 27, 2024, by the District of Columbia’s
Department of Employment Services (DOES), Division of State Initiatives, with the 2024 Star
Partner Award. This award is presented to recognize exceptional programs that work to eliminate
barriers to employment for DC residents. These barriers may include challenges related to
education, work experience, training, skills, prior incarceration, or the decline of specific
occupations and industries in the DC Metropolitan Area.

Over the past 24 months, The Excalibur Group has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to
workforce readiness, enrichment, and the removal of barriers that hinder employment
opportunities for residents. The organization’s efforts have resulted in over 20 residents securing
unsubsidized employment, showcasing the direct impact of their training and support programs.
The prestigious Star Partner Award was accepted by Daron Boyd and Teresa Gadson from the
Adell C. Workforce team, along with leadership from The Excalibur Group, including President
Marcus White, and Director of Capture, Amber Faith, during the Shining Star Awards Gala. The
ceremony celebrated those who have made significant contributions to workforce development
and community leadership.

Emily Marasco, Vice President of The Excalibur Group, shared her thoughts on receiving the
award: “This prestigious recognition is a testament to the incredible dedication, hard work, and
resilience our team has shown, even as we navigated constant changes and challenges. This
award carries deep significance for us, and we would like to dedicate it to our late Program
Director, Mae Mills, who inspired us all with her unwavering commitment and vision.”
In honor of this achievement, The Excalibur Group plans to host a celebration to pay tribute to
Mae Mills, former ACW Workforce Center Director, whose legacy continues to guide and
inspire the team’s mission.

The Excalibur Group remains committed to helping individuals overcome employment barriers
and will continue to provide the necessary tools, training, and support to empower residents and
foster long-term success.
